Alfred Ost OPSINJOOR cigar label inner & outer label, Litho Opsinjoorke is een kort dik mannetje met een snor. Hij symboliseert de eeuwige dronkenlap die zijn vrouw afranselt. Als straf wordt hij door zijn buren op een grote doek in de lucht gegooid en weer opgevangen.
Traditiegetrouw neemt Mechelen jaarlijks een houten pop die Opsinjoorke voorstelt mee tijdens grote praalstoeten en ommegangen. Men draagt hem op een grote lijnwaden doek en smijt hem hiermee in de lucht. Op dezelfde wijze vangt men hem ook weer op.

De wortels van Opsinjoorke's bestaan bevinden zich in Spanje. Het land kent een soortgelijke traditie rond een mannetje genaamd El Pelele. In het Madrileense Pradomuseum valt op een schilderij van Francisco de Goya overigens ook een tafereel te zien waarbij iemand op een doek de lucht in gesmeten wordt.
In 1647 sneed Valentyn van Lanscroon de pop uit hout en gaf hem de nam "sotscop" (zotskop). Deze titel zou de komende decennia veranderen in meer denigrerende namen als "vuilen bras", "vuilen bruidegom" of "vuilen bruid". opsinjoor is an old folkloric person, who beated up his wife when he was drunk. So his neighbours were so angy at him that they woke him up by trowing him on a blanket high and let him fall

Thematic website on chromo lithographic printed advertising ephemera. Trade cards from chocolate and other food Company's have mostly 6 cards in a set, mainly on same subject, generally between 1870 and 1920. Later editions have their albums and sets were larger.
I don’t have the time to make photographs of the 300.000 cards that I have for sale … these photographs are just to illustrate what kind of material we have … most of the time it is for sale ( but can just be sold, can be a buy-not-buy-decision from people who cannot decide in a few days and let me wait for their acts ). | Please don’t overreact and read this carefully : mentioned catalogue prices are ONLY for original FIRST editions, for sets and cards from the LIEBIG Extract of Meat Company, very good condition ONLY. For all other editions ( proofs, other companies, other printing) prices are only fractions of those prices ! Just an example : a complete ordinary set without advertising on front, with blanco verso (no printing at all) has a worth of ONE dollar or maybe 10 cent if printed by another printer (vintage falsifications, sold copyrights, reproductions) |
